Hello,
I would post a request for any local vets to pool and see if it is an oropharyngeal polyp. And while under ask them to flush the nose and take a chest Xray.
Can you find a nasal polyp without doing a CT and using a Xray? My cat has chronic URI symptoms that are not resolving with 3 rounds of different antibiotics. She is sneezing blood droplets and has strider sounds in chest, lungs are clear.

Hi Dr Magnifico,
I have a 6 year-old female cat who came to us as a stray and always had noticeable creaky purring sounds. She was about 1 year old when we got her. She has recently developed noisier breathing and almost whistling, and the vet said the sound comes from her nose or trachea, not from the lungs. Bloodwork normal, they don’t think it’s allergies. No nasal discharge or coughing. I saw your videos and think it may be a polyp (the vet said it’s possible). another vet quoted me 1800 for ct scan and 1800 for removal. I can’t possibly afford that. Prednisolone helps for 5 minutes then it starts again. I have not tried an inhaler. She is quieter (sometimes completely quiet) when she is asleep. No mouth breathing at any time. Dr says most likely not asthma.
Do you have any suggestions on what else we can try and also would you be able to see her and check for polyp without an additional ct scan (due to cost)? Thank you.

Finnegan is a 3.5 yr old male cat with serious nasal polyp symptoms – sneezing, noisy/labored breathing (snoring, stridor), persistent nasal discharge and one runny eye. He did two rounds of clavamox and one round of Doxycycline and nothing worked. I took him to two in person vets (including an emergency vet) in the NYC area and his blood work and urinalysis came back unremarkable. From the research I’ve done I’m sure it’s a polyp or something of the sort. The internal medicine places in my area are quoting me 5-10k just for a biopsy and they don’t have openings until mid January. Please help! I am able to travel with him in a car up to 6-8hours and will go where I can get him help. He is constantly snoring and I have to flush him out throughout the day. He is still eating but has lost a bit of weight due to this going on so long and progressively worsening. Last year he had FIP and he made a full recovery from the 87+ days of shots. Thankfully that has not returned according to his lab work but makes sense that he is more susceptible to other illnesses due to a weak immune system.

Hello,
A polyp in the nose is both hard to identify and hard to remove. I don’t think that there is any other way than a ct scan and a scope. I also think that they are less likely than a tumor or a polyp in the mouth or ear.
Wish I could offer better advice.
