He just started this last night. I set something on the floor for him to eat and he just kinda dances around it. He has never done this before. If I pick it up and give it to him he eats it. If I put it in his bowl (that is raised)he eats it no problem.

I adopted my cat Loki more than 2 years ago when he was a little over 1 1/2 years old. He is going to turn 4 on October 9 (in just over one week from now). He is neutered, and vet records show he was neutered as a tiny kitten. His only medical issue is a viral infection in his sinuses which requires daily Lysine doses in his food and he does very well. He is not de-clawed. He has always been very good about using the litter box for the 2+ years I have had him.
Just last week he peed in a laundry basket of clean clothes on my bedroom floor. While cleaning that up I noticed he had earlier peed on a pile of dirty clothes about 6ft from that basket. I’m embarrassed to say I left my laundry get out of control and my room was a disaster area, so I thought it was possible he peed on the items as a call to action for me to clean up my mess. Since then I have been sleeping on the couch so he doesn’t claw at the door while I’m keeping him out of my bedroom for a while. I though it was an isolated incident and we were over it. Now it’s 2:30am and I smell urine on my couch right next to where Loki and I were sleeping. It’s not wet and does not smell like ammonia- just a minimal amount of urine. He has never, EVER marked anything or demlnstrated anything similar to marking behavior before.
I live alone in a 600 square foot apartment with one immediate neighbor who makes almost no noise. I do not have any other pets. The only major change that has happen recently I went from working 60-hour workweeks (November through July) to a 4pm-1am(ish) 4day/week schedule (July-August) and started a 9-5 in the second week of October, where I leave at 8:30 and return by 6:00.
The litter box is kept clean and he does use it daily. No sign of straining and the pee clumps are the same size as usual. He is eating and drinking normally and shows no sign of irritation, pain, discomfort, disinterest or fatigue.
What could the problem be? How can I get him to stop? It is so sudden and I am worried about him!
Hello Erin…..you need to take him to the Vet. Urinating suddenly like this could be sign there something wrong…kidneys, crystals a bladder infection…all sorts of things. Take a urine sample with you if you possibly can, it will help the Vet pinpoint the problem.

There could be a number of reason why he is peeing outside the box. 1st thing could be the change of hours you are working now, cats do not like change, 2nd reason could be the size of the litter box it may be to small for him now, you could get a bigger litter box, 3rd reason could be the kind of litter you are using, the best ltter is small pieces and clumping, also you should always make sure the litter is clean and once a week you should wash the litter box with soap and water. Where ever he is peeing outside the litter box you have to make sure that you clean the spot really well or he will just keep coming back to the same spot. And last you should buy a second litter box for him and put it closer to where he is going. If he is eating and drinking the same and hasn’t change at all then i don’t think he is sick but if you try these things and he is still peeing outside the box and if he stops eating and drinking then please take him to the vet, or if you feel that none of these things will help you then you should take him to the vet. Sorry but i just thought of something, even if a male is neutered they will sometimes spray but its not a big amount like pee would be, its a small circle and has no smell, and cats are like children in some ways, i think your cat is upset about your new hours and is just acting up. So when a cat urinates outside the box, it is a sign of irritation, pain, discomfort, illness, stress,,,tons of other things as well.
I would take him for a urinalysis. You cannot tell by how much pee or how little pee a cat is making if there is an infection. One of the main reasons cats pee outside the box without ever having done so before is a UTI. (urinary tract infection) . So it’s best to get him checked.
Also, the stress from you having a different schedule could also cause this for him. But my bet would be on something going on with his body, so get him examined and tested.
A few other things could be: diabetes, thyroid issues that can also cause peeing issues.

He has had a lot of meds. One initial antibiotic shot at the vet. Oral antibiotics x’s 2 rounds. Now, I’m giving him shots at home. The swelling (there was a lot) is pretty much gone. No fever for several days. He is , of course, weak from all of this. He has lost his appetite. He was eating chicken noodle soup and broth. Now, he doesn’t even want that. I’m sure all the meds have irritated his stomach. He kinda snarls his nose now when I try. I need help! We see the vet again Wednesday. 10 hours of nursing during the day and 5-6 at home begging a dog to eat. Any suggestions? I’m thrilled the swelling is gone, now I need him eat. He will drink water. Not as much as before, but he drinks.
My kitten (6 months) fell from the staircase, about 10 feet up. A plastic cookie container broke her fall. She seems to be alright, but right below her nose, on the right side of her lip, she is red/bruised and winces if it is touched. Aside from that, she has been eating, using her litter, played a little, and has been sleeping most of the day. Just want to know if the bruising is anything to be concerned about, as well as her sleepless after the fall (which I attributed to being shaken up about it).
Hello….10 feet is an awfully long way for a kitten to fall. You need to have her checked over by a Vet to see if there are any other injuries you can’t see….and also to have her nose looked at.
I took my dog in on tuesday to have her teeth cleaned and 2 extractions. She pooped before the surgery and after the surgery. She pooped Wednesday morning and was still kind of out of it. She didn’t poop at all on Thursday but was in a much better mood and acting more herself. It is now Friday morning and still no poop. Since she had extractions the vet told me to only feed her soft food. She was eating wellness core reduced fat formula before surgery but for the wet food I got her blue buffalo. She has a good appetite. Wednesday it was hard to get her to drink water but Thursday she drank more. She didn’t pee as much Wednesday but on Thursday she went more like usual. The vet prescribed her rimadyl, tramadol, and cephalexin for an antibiotic. She hasn’t tried to poop and doesn’t strain to poop and her last poop was perfectly normal. When should I worry about it?

I should also mention that my dog is an ivdd dachshund and she has nerve damage in her lumbar spine. She can still move and feel her legs but not enough to walk on her own. Could this nerve damage accompanied with the anesthesia she was under cause her digestion to be slowed?

She has her parvo shots but her sister passed away from an unknown illness and I’m just worried that she might have got It. she has been really stressed recently and she’s been staying at numerous peoples house until we get the area disinfected at her home and she has been eating a multitude of different dog food she is used to Alpo and blue diamond but at other peoples house she has been eating kibbles and bits could be what’s wrong with her and what do I need to do to help her get rid of the diarrhea is an online that before at night tell me that I needed to keep her away from food and water for 12 hours. This seems kind of confusing to me thing as whenever someone has diarrhea they need to keep fluids to stay from dehydrating I’m very confused as to what to do.

Never mind starve her, keep her away from water….this is a 3 month old puppy who has just lost her sibling from an unknown illness. Plus shes been here there and everywhere, fed different foods (why didn’t you get her food to send with her?) and could have picked up any infection going. …now shes got diahrrea and is vomiting?

I’m sorry my keyboard is messed up what I meant to say I was just trying to let my friend know that keeping her away from water wasn’t going to do anything but dehydrate hurt and hurt her even more she asked 2 online vets and I told her to keep her away from food and water for 12 hours I did not believe that she should do this I was just trying to get confirmation from people that I know would give us the right information.

As our Vet Krista said…keeping water away from a puppy this young is dangerous! Shes just 3 months old…..dehydration can set in very easily at thaf age and she could die from it….shes already vomiting and has diarrhea..and already losing fluid. There is no messing about with puppies….this one needs a Vet now. I hope your friend realises that.
I don’t want to speak out of turn here Angel…but doesn’t your friend realise how serious this is? This pup could still have Parvo even though shes had her shots. Her sibling died…..this puppy is very ill and needs to see a Vet urgently. I don’t understand why people get dogs and then risk their lives…it astounds me

What you have to understand is there is a lot more to the story than meets the eye. People are trying to poison our dogs my beagle lab mix as well. You made it sound as if we aren’t doing anything at all Molly has taken her dogs to the vet several times her vet I’ll as of this moment is incredibly steep. She loves her fur babies and treats them like her children. I can attest to this because her puppies visit me everyday. You almost make it sound like she doesn’t take care of them, but you’re seriously mistaken.
And Cleopatra has been to the vet test came back negative for canine distemper, adenovovirus type two, parainfluenza, and the parvovirus that is why we tried searching online to see what could be wrong. Before you assume we don’t take care of our animals.
That and we wouldn’t be searching online for help if we didn’t care.

Hello, I just adopted a kitten and I had a few inquires about her and her health. Unfortunately, the previous owner did not know her age, therefore I do not either. The kitten is a Persian breed, at glance I’d say she’s about 5 or 6 weeks old. Please would you tell me what type of food to give her? Prior to my understanding of what cats eat, I have fed her cheese as meals for an entire day; I stopped upon finding out it is not good for them. I have then fed her boiled chicken, though she ate it she did not seem to enjoy it. I plan on buying cat food today however I do not know what brand to get; and since she was getting hungry I fed her smoked turkey rashers and I’m wondering if that would harm her?

As she is a kitten – she needs building up like any new animal- get kitten milk -it is called that- NOT normal milk -at the supermarket- this is a food supplement- any good commercial “wet” canned food and you can get biscuits for different age cats
Also the local vet can give you advice – a lot of commercial biscuits are very salty- ask the vet

Hello! My Gerbil (3 – 6 moths), Pregnant, and female, seems to be having some slight problems. She is bleeding in her anus (butt – hole), and a dark red blob (small) seems to be stuck in her anus, and is not budging. She is acting normal, eating normally, and all that. Does this have something to do with her pregnancy? Will she be okay? Someone please tell me… I don’t want to lose her and her babies 🙁 🙁

Take her to the vet sweetie! No matter if it’s an animal or person, bleeding from the butt isn’t good.. It could be many things, but with her being pregnant, you need to get her to the vet ASAP.

She definitly needs a vet. If it really is her anus it maybe is her colon portruding. She needs an emergency vet. It also could be because of her pregnancy, that she tries to push to hard. If so she also needs an emergency vet.
No matter the cause, she can die without treatment.
She was sick about three weeks ago with a fever and slightly elevated numbers in her pancreas. After several days on antibiotics she started eating again. Then she sprained her toe 11 days ago while running in the park, and is now walking without a limp. Now this purple lump on her stomach just popped up out of nowhere. It doesn’t look like a bite. It’s in between nipples, so it doesn’t have to do with that. She was fixed at three months old, so it shouldn’t have anything to do with mammary glands. Does this look familiar to anyone? I’ve shelled out about $350 in vet bills over the past three weeks and I’d like to avoid another trip if this is something that could just go away on it’s own.

UPDATE: It’s only been a few hours since my post, but the thing ruptured. It’s gone from the dark purple to a clear ring with slight red around it. I’m guessing it was just a large pimple or blister of some kind. I’ve cleaned and disinfected it. I’ll keep an eye on it, but I’m guessing she’s going to be just fine.
Keep it clean probably and infected pimple like bump. I use peroxide on my dogs.
My cat was spayed on Wednesday and it is now Sunday and she stil is laying around not active should I worry. She seams to be not in pain but lays around all day not doing much. She eats and drinks but not as much as before she went in.
Normally it will take 2-3 days after being spayed to feel better, if your cats is older then she might take a little longer to feel like herself again, but if you are worried then you could call the vet that you went to and ask them if you should be worried. I think as long as she is eating and drinking then she should be ok, and your baby will start to eat more when she gets back to herself again. Good luck
Any other abnormalities with head movement? Any signs of pain?
No nothing else. He is going outside and everything seems to be working normal. He puts his head down to sniff the ground, it just seems to be when he eats.
Was it some new food item by chance? Is it still happening? Did you try with different foods/treats?
No new food. He eats what ever it is if I hand it to him or if it’s in his bowl. I even had to raise his water bowl this morning.
Hm, something is going on there; I’d still suspect pain of sorts. I’d have him checked. Sometimes things start out subtle.
I just got home and gave him one of his favorite treats, same thing dropped it on the floor and kind of circled it. I feed it to him and he eats it. He doesn’t seem to have pain but dogs don’t show pain all the time. If he scratched his throat with something would he maybe act that way?
Not sure if a scratch could have done it but I do feel that SOMETHING hurts when he tries to get it off the floor.
