I Took My 20 Pound Jack Russell To A Two Week Training Program. When…

I took my 20 pound jack Russell to a two week training program. When I picked him up, the trainer told me that he sustained an injury to his chest after falling on a branch. He had a wound to his left lower chest which is now mostly healed however had a fluid pocket in close proximity on his right side of his chest. I am not a vet but I am a physician So I thought the best approach would be to aspirate the fluid. I have aspirated the fluid twice, Both times I got about 25 to 40 mL of zero serosanguinous fluid However the fluid re-accumulated both times shortly after. The fluid was nonpurulent, the dog is afebrile, eating and going to the bathroom normally, and the side of the seroma is not warm tender or red. I was just curious if I should leave it alone and not drain it anymore or if I need to take him to a vet to have a drain placed? Id prefer conservative management. please let me know your thoughts. I appreciate it thank you

Hello,
I would suggest you go to the vet. They can help decide what to do and help you manage the injury.

So my cat is at the vet now. It’s been 4 days. I found her laying limp. Back hindleg swollen. I would guess she fell at some point through the night. The vet isn’t sure what happened xray showed no broken bones. She’s been on antibiotics and today (day 4) swelling has gone down but now the small wound is pussing. The vet says there is internal injury. What is going on with my kitty!?

Hello,
I’m sorry but there is not enough information to provide much direction. Please ask your vet to help you understand what might be wrong with your cat and how you can diagnose this and treat it?

I would make a trip to the vet since there is obvious infection. You’ve no idea where the wounds came from, and if they are from a rabid animal, you will want to make sure your cat gets seen and treated right away. I hope he is ok. Good luck.

Hello,
My advice is to see a vet for an antibiotic and make sure he is vaccinated for rabies. Also have him neutered as unneutered males are far more Likely to fight.

Is there anyone there that has any experience in caring for animals medically? Perhaps they can assist? Are there no veterinarians anywhere near by? Perhaps they could advise you? I’m sorry, but without knowing the full extent of what is going on with the dog, there’s not much else I personally can offer.

This dog clearly needs medical help. is there anyway that can be provided?

We Had Picked Up Two Half Bengal Kittens For Free A Day After Christmas. They…

We had picked up two half bengal kittens for free a day after Christmas. They are adorable. However they were infested other fleas and their ears are dirty no mater how many times I clean them. I think they have ear mites.

I have a one year old tabby cat who we adopted from the vet. However one of the kittens has scratched him 4 times on the face.

His fur has gone where the scratch is and bald.

His scratch has completely healed. There is no bump or pus. They don’t hurt him when touched them as I have washed the wound and put Betadine on the wound.

How long until his hair grows back. My partner and I have decided to give the kittens to our vet hospital, were they can give the kittens the treatment they need.

Just again. How long till my cats hair grows back and what do I need to look out for?

Thank you

I’m pretty sure that is ringworm. Disinfect everything the pets have come in contact with and be careful. Ringworm is super contagious and It can easily spread to humans and other pets. Don’t be alarmed it is a fungal infection and it has limited side effects besides the circles but it spreads really easy.

I completely agree. Your cat should go to the vet…

Has your cat been seen by your vet? Those spots look more like ringworm than a scratch to me. Please get him checked.

Circles are very strange shapes for normal kitten scratches. I would ask the vet those questions, though…

Fluid leakage is normal. Provided it isn’t excessive, I wouldn’t worry. I would address questions like this to the vet in question, though, since they know what’s going on with your dog.

Keep her quiet and on limited activity for a MINIMUM of 10 days, ideally closer to 14 days post surgery.

Hello,
I agree with Laura! It is also important to ask how she is doing? The incision should not look red, swollen, feel hot or painful and she should be acting normal. Not trying to lick at the incision, not licking the incision, and the incision should be closing within the next week if she can be kept calm and quiet.

If she cannot urinate, that’s an emergency. Do you have another vet nearby you can ask?

My kitty is on day 5 of antibiotics and cleaning of his abscess that broke on 6 days ago. It’s still open without any signs of puss. Just an open wound, no swelling at this point. When can I let him go back outside and romp around again?

I’m pleased your cat is recovering. However if he still has an open wound it could very easily become infected if he goes outside to romp around and play. Cats get into all sorts of things. He needs to stay inside until the wound has totally healed over.

Krista Magnifico

I agree with Julie. Open wounds are invitations to parasites like maggots. Please keep your cat inside until they are healed completely

Hi …sorry to hear your cat has been ill. If pus is still present and you can see it under the skin, do take your cat to a Vet. Infection is trapped and could well go into your cats bloodstream. This could have very serious consequences if its not treated by a Vet (Sepsis). Please don’t leave this any longer, make an appointment today. Hope he recovers soon and good luck.

In these cases I always prescribe an antibiotic. And often discuss placing a drain to help expedite resolution.

WIthout knowing the severity of the wound or how it happened, there is no way that any9ne could recommend any steps to take. I wouldn’t advise calling the vet and explaining the situation and see what they say.
