Beyond diagnoses of your dog’s condition you may want to consider having a simple fist aid device to help revive your dog.  Fire departments, Police departments, and other first responders are now carrying equipment to provide mouth to mouth resuscitation or stimulating respiration for pets.  If you search FIDO BAGS it will point you in the right direction.

Did your dog’s limping start after your dad sat on him? If so this is probably the reason for the limp. The shaking could be a result of the pain from an injury from being sat on. It would probably be a good idea to take your dog for an exam by your veterinarian and go from there. It may be nothing, or it could be tissue or bone damage.

Cathy,

I would take him to his vet.

Labs and lab mixes are usually high energy dogs that are looking for a job to do. One of the suggestions I would make is to be sure that your dog is getting lots and lots of exercise with daily walks at least twice a day. Also try occupying time with chew toys or treats. You can also detract the cats from the area that may help if she cannot see them. If you are feeding the cats, feed them away from the area your dog visits. Good luck! I’m interested to hear other suggestions.

Hi Claire! Our home has had a dog door for the past 6 years and we love it.  We have a fenced in back yard so the dogs can let themselves in and out any time.  We do not have a locking door but we often slide the cover over it when we don’t want them to go out or when it is very cold/windy outside.  The only problem we have had is the fact that we have a very big dog and a small dog so the height of the door was put in too high for the little… Read more »

Our german shepherd is very achy-especially early in the day and on damp days-which leads us to think it is arthritis (he’s 7). Anything we can do to make him feel better?

Hi Sarah! I agree with Krista!  Diagnosis from your vet first.  If you should find that it is arthritis/joint-related…. If you are open to a natural way to help your furbaby, I have extensive experience in helping my 16 year old Golden Retriever (and many other pups) with arthritis pain and inflammation.  (I am not a vet).  This is not meant to sound self-serving because I now sell through my blog – because I am in love with the products – but I only use doTERRA essential oils to help him because they are certified pure therapeutic grade and they work!… Read more »

Hi Denise,

I would recommend enrolling your pup in a group obedience class.  It would give you  and your dog the chance to work on his focus in a controlled environment. My trainer is Aja at mutt magic training. I love her classes! We have taken several rescues there as well as my own dogs.  Her website is http://www.muttmagic.com.  Good luck!!
