All of my Cairn Terriers shake now and then, and there is no pain connection.  They seem to shake most often when they are excited about something – they have been running around and then jump on the back of the sofa and look out the window, that is when I notice the shaking most often.  I have one that was not properly socialized and he shakes when he thinks I want to put him in a car (fear reaction).  If it happens only now & then as you stated in your question, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Hi Linda. Small dogs tend to shake at a drop of the hat, with anxiety, fear or even excitement. But I don’t think that’s the case here. I believe your friend is right that your yorkie shakes for a medical reason, be it pain or something else. I’d definitely have him checked.
