You can safely use the generic, over-the-counter Triple Antibiotic Ointment without the pain relief in it or the name brand Neosporin.  I rescued cats & kittens for 20 yrs and it works just fine. Also used it when there was an epidemic of conjunctivitis in birds – House Finches. Caught them as they were going blind.  All healed and set free to fly in 2 wks of just a twice a day application.
