Dogs have fur for a reason. I’d never shave my dog (with exception of medical procedures or surgeries). She might need more consistent grooming to prevent these mats in the first place. Existing mats might need to be removed and the affected areas might need to be trimmed radically but please don’t shave anything that doesn’t need to be shaved.

All the way to bald? Wow, glad I don’t have Poodles 🙂

Hm, even if I did have a Poodle, I’d never have them shaved like this. This is as short as I’d go if I had one

I wouldn’t want to spend most of my life grooming my dogs either 🙂 That is one of the reasons I prefer short coats. I’d rather play with my dogs for the extra hour than spend it brushing 🙂

how is she getting mats?  are you brushing her regularly?  how often are you taking her to the groomer?  poodles need to be clipped monthly, i believe.

i agree to a point, but poodles have been bred to be clipped bald in some spots (you’ve seen the Conti cut in dog shows, right? butt bubbles!).

just about, yeah.

i love love LOVE Standards, but their grooming requirements made me rethink that plan.

maybe if i really wanted to learn how to clip the dog myself, i’d consider it in the future. but i like my wash & go dobe.

i prefer that clip, too. it’s still more work than i want to deal with!

i’ve seen a lot of Conti-clip poodles due to showing my bitch. it’s ridiculous to me, but this is why i’m not in that breed. 😉

AMEN TO THAT!

heck, i don’t even like GSD coats…they’re not “long” but they sure do shed more than i’d like.

Ah, then her hair needs to be kept short to prevent them.
