male. These incidents took place several hours apart and after each incident the dog became docile once again and would interact gently with the subjects that were bitten. Should this dog now be considered dangerous and kept away from family gatherings? Is there hope for the relative to train this dog to not attack in this manner. In each case there was no provocation towards the dog what so ever.

Concerned for safety.

I know exactly what you mean.. he basically acts like a cat. I think its a behaviour issue. I had a pitbull in the past that would love it when I would pet her, but as soon as my mom came over to pet her .. .she would bark and growl at me with her hairs sticking up on her back!! Just because my mom was around? It was really weird. I think you should talk to a person who specializes in behaviour issue.. This usually happens with older dogs.. good luck

by “adult male” do you mean humans or dogs?

first, i would get to the vet for a full workup – sudden behavior changes should always warrant a vet visit.  once clear of all medical problems, i would contact a veterinary behaviorist to work with the dog.
