I looked at my dog’s ear today and there is a red bump, slightly larger than a pea, with what look like little scratches on it. This was not there last night, and when I noticed it today it had a good amount of dry blood surrounding it. I gently cleaned it with a Q-Tip, which did not seem to cause her any pain or irritate it more, but just by looking at it you can see it is clearly inflamed.

The attached photo is from while I was cleaning it out, before I had finished. But they give you a good view of what it looks like. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Mike (and Lulu)

Whenever I see a swelling like that on a dog I have to consider whether or not there might be an infection of some sort … if it is an infection you’d need a prescription from your vet for an anti-biotic to treat it. Either way, it’s best to have a vet do a physical exam of the bump because it’s really too hard to tell via a picture what the cause and treatment could actually be.

Looks like it could be a growth of some sort, or could just be an infection from a tick or flea? BEst to get it checked out by the vet.
