We just adopted a new three-month-old kitten today, and we’re a bit worried about her chosen hiding spot. In our apartment, the washer and dryer are in the bathroom, which is where we set up her food and litter box and such for the transition into the household. I made the mistake, however, of letting our older cat, whom we’ve had for about five months, come in to meet the new baby. While the kitten was fine, our older cat (who was seven when we adopted her) hissed quite a bit. The new baby is now hiding behind the dryer, despite my precautionary attempts to seal that particular area off. My biggest concern is that she was just spayed yesterday, and it’s extremely dusty back there, so I’m worried about her stitches getting irritated or infected. Should we try to prod or coax her out and try to re-seal the washer/dryer area? There are folding doors in front of them, and even though I closed them and piled up towels to block the large gap at the bottom, she dug past them. I suppose we could try large books or something, if needed.
