I recently had to put my 12 year old cat down unexpectedly. He lost the use of his back legs and panting badly. The emergency vet said it was a blood clot do to his heart murmur. He had a 10% chance to improve. I’m coping with the loss of him as best I can.

I knew of his heart murmur but my regular vet said it was low grade. He also showed no signs of distress up until the day I took him to the ER.

I’m trying to understand a little more of these conditions because my 3 year old cat also has a murmur. I’d like to know preventative measures as well for him.

Thanks in advance for any advise.
