My dog had an abscess removed on Friday, with a penrose drain placed on her leg. The vet said to flush it twice a day with peroxide and to keep her e collar on her whenever I cannot directly supervise her. Now I’m reading everywhere NOT to use peroxide to flush it. How should I care for the drain until the removal in a few days?

I would be hesitant to use peroxide too because it causes damage to cells. I’d be more incline to use betadine solution.

Generally light tea color is used. I’ve used dark tea color with some infections with good results too. The thing is that you want to flush out germs but not damage cells.
