She has been destructive and just meows all the time at me but does not really want to play. I’ve gotten new toys but she doesn’t play with them which is unusual for her. Is a new cat for her to play with the right option?

Agree that she sounds lonely and that ruling out health issues would make sense

i’d make sure she doesn’t have any health problems – destruction and yelling at you may be an indicator that she doesn’t feel well.

if she integrated well with your parents’ cats, a playmate might be an ideal solution!

then it certainly sounds like she’s lonely (but she should go in for an annual exam, anyway 🙂 ). i’d consider a male around her age or younger.
