My 7 week old puppy was diagnosed with puppy strangles. He’s responded well to his 2-week steroid treatment and antibiotics. Is this a good indication that treatment was successful or should I expect a re-occurance or at the very least continue medication for another week or two? When can I re-vaccinate?

Thank you for your reply! He had his first booster at 6 1/2 weeks but subsequent vaccines came to a screeching halt a few days later when he was diagnosed with puppy strangles. Can he resume vaccinations and if so, how many weeks/months after successful treatment?
Hello,
It is a very good sign. I have not seen a dog get a recurrence. But you so need to keep in contact with your vet and don’t stop treatment prematurely.
Hello,
I’m sorry. I did answe this. But it appears to have not stuck.
In my experience once these guys are treated and recovered they never get it again. The only string recommendation that I have with strangles is to stay in constant contact with your vet to help monitor and guide you. And don’t stop treating too early. It takes weeks to resolve. But as long as your puppy is eating and happy they are on the right road. Just don’t be impatient. Best of luck. Let us know how things go.
