Hi. I’m posting because I’m very upset about my 2 year old female Bulldog. I brush her teeth religiously, everyday, and have always been crazy about her dental health – her breath never even smells doggy. However I noticed that her breath suddenly smells fishy, and very strange, almost like meat. I am so worried about it, and what could be causing it as I just want it to go away. I did try her on a new (raw lamb) food. I have not given it to her since yesterday, after noticing the smell. Could it still be the food? Or something else?

Hello,
Typically bad breath is a sign of dental disease. This particular breed has a significantly higher likelihood of dental disease because the mouth and teeth are often not normal in size, shape and alignment of the teeth. Also their underbite can cause problems. I always recommend any pet with foul breath be seen by a vet ASAP to rule out and address infection first. If it isn’t dental disease it can be the food. But let your vet check your dog anyway. Let us know what happens.
