My male pitbull just turned 6 years old in June. I have taken him to the vet but unfortunately they took advantage & I got no real diagnosis but spent an outrageous amount of money. I plan on taking him to a more reliable vet very soon. I thought I would get an opinion just to see what other dog owners have experienced. About 3 months ago is when he started showing noticeable symptoms. Lots of weight gain, lethargic, mentally slow, but not eating enough to gain that amount of weight. More recently, he has been smelling terribly…. And I mean terrible! and scratching a lot! Also has problems with bowel movements. I bathed him very well but the smell has not gone away at all. I read that all of these symptoms point to hypothyroidism. I told that to my previous vet but they did not help at all. Any advice or experience with this is greatly appreciated.
