My chihuahua woke me up on Monday evening yelping like he was being murdered. I took him to our vet yesterday and she treated him for a double ear infection. They flushed his ears and put K.E.T. otic in his ears. Sent him home with 6 12mg deramaxx to be given 1/2 tablet for six days. Last night and today he is yelping so much more. Had about six episodes last night alone. Today he is randomly yelping. I called our vet and they said it may take 48 hours for the ear medication to make him feel better. I have setup a checkup appointment but I am worried about his today. Can the medication still be working it’s way into his canal and making him yelp?

Hello,
I think it is time to insist that your vet help your dog feel better or ask for a referral or go get a second opinion. I do not allow pets to remain in pain while waiting for meds to work. There are many analgesic options available and I think it’s time to reassure that this is only an ear infection or that perhaps something else is going on.
I hope this helps and I hope your dog is feeling better soon.
Good luck
