My dog woke up limping this morning. Her paw pad looks red and she keeps licking the bottom of her paw. Any idea?

Hello!! (I need to preface this answer by stating that Sophie (the dog In this question) is my patient). So I am going to answer this directly and with specific treatment instructions. Here’s May answer for Sophie: Can you soak it in cool water for a little while and then apply any topical antibiotic you have. Don’t let her lick it. Use a sock to cover it, or an ecollar. My dog had a patella surgery and apparently he was bored so he did this to himself too (only on 1 paw), he was licking it like a maniac. I put him a cone he got for his orthopedic surgery to prevent him from licking and put some penaten cream 3 times in 2 days (ingridients: zinc+panthenol) on the area. I dont know what it was but it is much better now (he is without cone again and he doesnt lick it). All the best
