My dog had a patella surgery and apparently he was bored so he did this to himself too (only on 1 paw), he was licking it like a maniac. I put him a cone he got for his orthopedic surgery to prevent him from licking and put some penaten cream 3 times in 2 days (ingridients: zinc+panthenol) on the area. I dont know what it was but it is much better now (he is without cone again and he doesnt lick it). All the best

Here’s May answer for Sophie: Can you soak it in cool water for a little while and then apply any topical antibiotic you have. Don’t let her lick it. Use a sock to cover it, or an ecollar.
