My horse’s back end clicks but only in walk, and every step he takes, usually while warming up while riding, do you know why this is?

Dear Eve,
My antique standardbred has this happen upon occasion, and it is his rear foot running into the heel of his front foot on each step.
It only happens with a certain stride…
It would be nice if it’s something minor like that!

HI Eve, Great answers already. This is really common, especially with horses that are warming up or going into extended gaits (working walk, extended trot),,as the bones/ligaments and tendons are moving and stretching.

If your horse goes lame or sore, time for a vet check, otherwise I’d guess that it’s within the norm.

All the best!
