I have a Yorkie and twice a week he stays at home about 9 hours alone with his brother (a bichon) and they are fine. On those days we go for a 30 min. walk and I have a camera app on them all day which I can play music and white noise, talk to them, and see them. They are fine. it is all about making a comfy place for them while I am gone.

If I were you I would talk to your neighbours and see if there is any elderly couples or stay at home mom/dads that would be willing to watch your pup during the day or let the dog out every few hours. Maybe there’s a doggy day care in your area? Just make sure you make arrangements before getting a dog

a mutt is a mix. a “morkie” is a mix of a yorkie and something else.

that’s a VERY long time to leave a dog alone, regardless of age.  for small dogs, it’s even worse – they have teeny tiny bladders.  best option would be finding someone to come by to let the dog out a couple of times during that time period.

since you used the word adopt, that tells me you’re going to rescue rather than buy a mutt (please don’t buy a mutt…).  discuss this with the rescue, and see what their suggestions are.

i’m saying if you want to have a mixed breed dog, to look at rescues and shelters rather than buying one.

i understand. it’s tough to have a dog at home when you work! especially when you get home tired and the dog wants to play play play play because they’ve been bored and stuck at home all day long! it’s exhausting. dogs are like having 4 legged children that can run away from you while they’re infants and which don’t understand English aside from the commands you teach them.

the community where i live – our specific neighborhood – has a Nextdoor website which is like a community board. maybe your community has one?

that said, here’s what Yelp has in your area: http://www.yelp.com/search?cflt=pet_sitting&find_loc=Somers+Point%2C+NJ
