I would be concerned about the cause of not wanting to eat. Is there a problem with the teeth or jaw? is she nauseous? How old is she?  the very best diet is a fresh food one using the same ingredients you would eat (locally raised, sustainable, organic, lots of variety, etc). To discover why she is not eating well, and helping her onto a healthier life style, I would strongly recommend finding an integrative veterinarian with whom to work. This is a person trained in many different approaches, including using conventional drugs only when absolutely needed. Working with one can… Read more »

The canine GI system is biologically structured to digest raw meat, this limitation combined with commercial dog food’s poor ingredient sources results in loss of appetite. Dogs associate eating with not feeling well, canned dog foods texture and higher level of palatable smell entices dogs to prefer it over dry even though they still assimilate only 60% of the nutrient content. Adding a probiotic/enzyme supplement to their feedings can increase nutrient assimilation to 100% and the dog will associate eating with feeling good regardless of dry or canned. I have experienced this with one of my dogs.  I used a quality can as you did to entice him.  I used a 50/50 split and made sure I mixed it up well using a spoon to smash the wet with the dry turning it over and over until no kibble was not mixed or coated.   I then pile it up in the middle of the bowl for easier eating. To give an amount example, I use a 5.5oz can with 1 cup of kibble.  Your amount will vary.  I, and it seems my pet, prefers a well balanced holistic… Read more »

Check out what Christina had to say. If your dog was eating consistently and nothing changed and then your dog stopped eating you have to ask why. You haven’t commented whether she is now eating or not. If she is not eating, enticing her with ‘goody’ foods is only masking a possibly problem. If she is not eating still, a vet visit is warranted. As far as brand, this is often a personal choice but should be based on research and reviews from reputable sites. I recommend a holistic diet and Jana had some good suggestions. As for me, like… Read more »

My pups have done this, I just added more of what I preferred them to eat often with a drizzle of olive oil.
