I found food for her that she could tolerate and the episodes seem to disappear, but lately she throws up regularly and sometimes we hear an awful moan before she barfs, which indicates to us she is in pain. Right after that she is perfectly normal and seems not in any pain. Any suggestions what we should do?

Your kitty is a quadruped – his esophagus is horizontal rather than vertical. Food can slam up against the lower esophageal sphincter and cause regurgitation of whole, undigested food several minutes after it’s consumed. Slowing down gobbling will help.
