Thoughts for a dog that gets sick when stressed…do you think placing her crate in my bedroom away from the window and noise of my landlords will make her less stressed if she’s not hearing all the noises?

Placing her crate in a calm and quiet area were you might be as well might help her.

that could help, sure.

i’d also wonder if this dog has had formal obedience training, and whether that training was extended past basic manners.  training classes – even classes for things like Nosework, Rally, and formal competition Obedience – help build confidence, and can improve a nervous, stressy dog’s overall demeanor.  some dogs just need the mental work more than others.  my girl, a Doberman Pinscher, is a menace if she isn’t in classes regularly…and if she weren’t a very confident girl, she’d probably be a nervous mess, too.

in fact, looks like there are a few decent Carroll Co trainers listed here: http://www.baltimoreforcefree.com/

i would say so. and definitely look into stuff like nosework and other classes…it sounds like she could use the confidence boost. if you were closer to Baltimore or Harford Co i’d have two PERFECT trainers to suggest.

hell, if you’re willing to hike down to Halethorpe, i know the folks who teach Nosework at Oriole.

something else to keep in mind: GSDs are brilliant dogs, and need to have a job. they’re on par with dobes for their intelligence. i think training classes, even drop-in classes, could help. 🙂
