Hello Kelly, Ringworm is caused by a fungus that invades the hair follicle of both dogs and cats, and I should say people too. The hair follicle becomes diseased and causes the hair to fall out. The lesions are seen primarily on sick, immuno-suppressed, young pets on their faces, ears, paws, and tail. The lesions are circular areas of hair loss with reddened skin at the outer perimeter.
