My 13 yr old dachshund was walking around just fine and sporadically went down at 7:30 p.m. in his back unable to use his back end. We immediately took him to Animal ER and they diagnosed him with disc issue and no DPS. By 1:30 p.m. the next day he was in surgery. He is one week out of surgery and still no bladder control, yet he looks back at his feet when i pinch his toes. What is your guess of his recovery and the use of acupuncture?

The best advice I can give is to ask the neurologist to help you with a consult. They can give you the best guess on recovery and prognosis. I have seen some of these guys take weeks to regain basic function.

Good morning. So sorry about your dog. When is the next follow up appointment with your regular vet? You may want to touch base with them periodically beforehand to give them updates. As far as acupuncture, I would also get the opinion from your vet as well as a recommendation of whom you should take your dog to.
