Hey Krista! Yes. My 1.5 yr old boy, Floki had his colon removed on Thur. I’ve done a lot of research about megacolon and the surgery. I was expecting diarrhea. Anything you can suggest to help cleaning? His raw butt, tail, and legs? I can tel he is not feeling good in general, but he’s eating, drinking, peeing, and taking his meds. I’m so worried about him and want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to help him.
I did call and his surgeon didn’t call me back yesterday. Floki really seems to be doing better today, but I’m so concerned with his rawness. He is red on his entire backside. I’ve been soaking warm rags and trying to get poop off, but feel I’m irritating him more. I’m not wiping him, just holding the rag to his bottom. He is not happy about it. Anything I can put on him to relieve pain, inflammation, and rawness??
Hello,
It sounds like quite an exceptional case. I’m sorry but without knowing a better history and what the exact treatment or surgical plan was this is very difficult to answer. Your veterinarian should have given you very specific instructions and a follow up exam schedule. If you have any questions about your cats surgery please call and ask them to recheck her. We usually expect soft stools. And in some cases there can be a lot of extra care needed to keep these pets clean and dry so they don’t get scalding from chronic diarrhea.
