My dog recently gave birth, but only 1 pup made it. Having no litter mates, it was suggested to me that I adopt or rescue an orphaned puppy/puppies to add to the single litter. And that sounds like a great idea to me! But where can I go to find out where and how to get a newborn or week old dog ASAP?

I think you will be fine to have him alone and if you find a puppy close to his age you are welcome to adopt him or her!! Maybe put an add on Craigslist also. The importance of having a litter mate is to teach them good social skills and have a companion. If you don’t find a litter mate, take him to a puppy play group as soon as you feel he is old enough to run around! It’s very good for them to be social and learn good manners with other dogs. Local rescue or shelters are probably your best bet.

Call local rescue shelters and organizations and see if they have any litters that they need help with. You could foster them, and at the same time help your pup.
