My Cocker Spaniel had surgery for a slipped disc nearly 7 weeks ago…at the base of his tail. I would say do everything you can to avoid this surgery!! Its a huge op with a very long recovery and very expeneive indeed.  Perhaps you should get sound advice from your Vet whether cage rest is needed. Other things you can do are use a harness not a collar and lead…the Puppia harness distributes weight across the dogs chest and off its neck and spine. NO jumping 4 feet on the floor at all times. I’m pleased you’ve seen a specialist and not so pleased they didn’t give you some sort of care plan! Perhaps you should phone them and chase it up? Do you have your girl insured? The Vet costs here in the UK are also horrendously high. The op for my Cocker was £6000.00 English pounds and another £500 bill from my own Vet before he was referred to a specialist. The alternative was euthanasia and that was not happening I can’t lose him. I wouldn’t wish such a scary stressful.experience on anyone so please do all you can to avoid that… Read more »
