My 11 year old shizTzu seems to be having a problem with constipation…

My 11 year old shizTzu seems to be having a problem with constipation . She has been eating the same dog food for years. Is there something I can give her to help her?

I am NOT a vet you could always call and ask one. However, that being said, in the past when I’ve had this issue I’ve given a tablespoon (for small dogs) of canned pumpkin. NOT the pie filling canned pumpkin but the PURE pumpkin. Always helped with mine. There could be many reasons for constipation. If it had not subsided in a few days, perhaps a trip to the vets is in order. Hope she feels better soon!

The dietary needs of a dog change with their age – what she has been eating for 11 years may not be what she needs to be eating now.   First I have to recommend you take her to a vet, her symptoms may indicate she has a blockage which could be the result of a multitude of things. How did you conclude your dog has constipation? Is she straining and pooping hard small poops? If not, just straining a lot and nothing coming out? Because THAT can also be caused by large bowel diarrhea. So it is important to know for sure what problem you’re actually treating.
