I have a new 1 yo rescue dog,If I let her outside, in the fenced yard, she barks her head off.As long as she’s on a leash she doesn’t bark. She digs and won’t play just run away. I’ve read suggestions on the internet but nothing’s working

Most dogs, when by themselves in the yard, they won’t exercise themselves and they won’t have a good time. Instead, they either won’t do much at all or get into mischief. The yard doesn’t fulfill the exercise/entertainment/mental enrichment purpose many people believe it does. The best way to use the yard is for potty, play or training WITH the dog. Is she barking at something in particular (e.g. traffic, people going by) or to get your attention and not to be in there alone? I’d go in the yard with her; on leash if needed. Ah, I see what you mean. You can start by getting a long lead and see if she’d play this way. Not all dogs are born to fetch, either, there is a great video showing how to teach a dog to fetch when it doesn’t some to them naturally. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oFO9Z0oHBA Cookie, for example (also adopted) is not a fetch type of dog. But we used this technique and she brings the ball and puts it right into my hand now. We are working on distance and distractions.
